Sanahin Monastery
Sanahin monastery (10th century) is a priceless treasure of Armenia and is also included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Literally translation of the word “Sanahin” means “this one is older than that one”, which is a claim to having an older monastery than the neighboring Haghpat Monastery. Sanahin houses more than 50 khachkars and the most famous are Grigor Tudevordi, located under the northern wall of the St. Harutyun Church (1184), Sarkis (1215) khachkars. These khachkars are considered to be the finest examples of Armenian sculpture.
